The Teamwork stage is an opportunity to plan your activities, and coordinate the people and resources needed on the project. To run the ‘Beyond the C’ project successfully, you’ll need to engage the right team – you cannot do this alone.
The first step is titled ‘Teamwork’ as it’s your opportunity to delegate roles, train your team members, and get support from everyone at your practice. Take a look at the activities that need to happen in this step:
- Assign team roles
- Communicate about the project
- Learn about hepatitis C
- Connect with your support team
Timing: It’s expected that it will take most practices around 1-2 months to complete this step.
Assign team roles
There are four roles in the project. Read each role description, and consider who might be the best person for each role. The same person may play multiple roles.
Project champion
The champion facilitates education on hepatitis C and reducing stigma for the whole practice. This role includes empowering other team members to complete the required documentation for the project, completing the PDSA, data spreadsheet.
As the practice liaison with ASHM the champion attends virtual meetings and provides updates on data reporting and project progress
Data searcher
The data searcher is responsible for designing and conducting the data search, applying filters to the practice’s clinical software, and developing the audit list.
The data searcher will also help to compile the reports on data searching activities. The data searcher will be most involved in Stage 2.
Clinical auditor
The clinical auditor is responsible for reviewing the results of the data search and conducting a clinical audit. As part of this process, the clinical auditor will code any hepatitis C cases, and design the process for recalling patients.
The clinical auditor will be most involved in Stage 3.
Clinician
Once you’ve identified patients with confirmed or possible hepatitis C, and you’ve recalled them, the clinician will be responsible for testing, prescribing treatment, and referring to specialists when required.
The clinician will need to understand how to test and treat hepatitis C, and our Resources section can support this. The clinician will be most involved in Stage 4.
Talk about the program
One of the most important things you can do in the Teamwork stage is to bring your team together and talk about the project. Discuss the roles and your expectations of each other. Plan out your activities, and discuss the skills and experience you’d all like to get from the project.
By talking about the project as a team, you will build a shared sense of motivation and understanding about the project and your goals.
Learn about Hepatitis C
As you begin this project, it’s critical that the team builds their understanding of hepatitis C and gets excited about the possibilities.
Each team members should log in to this website to find out more about the project and learn about hepatitis C.
Connect with your support team
Throughout the program, you’ll have the support of the ASHM Team, the Practice Nurse Advisor and local health services.
When your practice first signs on to the program, ASHM will be in contact to help get you started.
Your Practice Nurse Advisor will also be in contact to talk through your specific needs for support and education. Guiding you to information and resources that can assist. This includes linkages to our local health services such as your Primary Health Network or Hospital and Health Services for support.
